Over Land and Sea with Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures

Over Land and Sea with Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures

A Day of sightseeing and fun

Not many Jeep Tour companies in Cyprus come as highly recommended as Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures, which is why they are our preferred partner for jeep tours. Jimmy and his team provide a really personal, friendly service and boast amazing local knowledge, making their tours both informative and fun. They’ll make sure you explore the best parts of Cyprus at the best times, beating the tourist rushes and sharing their love of the island with you along the way.

Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures offer a good variety of trips to choose from, and don’t forget, Aphroditerentals.com guests’ benefit from a fantastic 10% off bespoke tours; so make sure you get in touch with Jimmy to find out more information on those.

This post brings you information on the amazing ‘Over Land and Sea’ trip that offers a half day’s adventure by both Landrover and boat:

Stopping at Peyia Sea Caves / Edro Shipwreck for a photo opportunity, this trip then moves on to St Georges church and fishing harbour for a small explore around the picturesque area, and comfort break if you so wish, with time to buy a coffee/refreshment. Then the real fun begins, with off-road adventure through the stunning Akamas peninsula to Lara bay. Lara Bay is famously known for being where turtles lay their eggs, and is a great spot to learn about the local turtle conservation project – you might even be lucky enough to witness a live hatching!

From there the trip continues to a viewing point where both east and west coasts can be seen, then it’s down to a semi-abandoned Turkish-Cypriot village on the way to the baths of Aphrodite. A lunch stop at the pretty Latchi harbour is next; this is optional and food is not included in the trip price. A wonderful 3 hour boat trip to the incredible Blue Lagoon ensues, where approximately an hour is allocated to swimming and snorkelling in the crystal blue sea. A glass of wine or juice, and some seasonal fruit, is offered on board after this. After docking back in Latchi it’s time to make our way back to Paphos; another opportunity to marvel at this beautiful coastline.

Please note that the itinerary may be subject to change according to weather conditions.

“Ive had the pleasure to go join Jimmy on his Over Land and Sea Safari … absolutely highly recommended . This guy knows his stuff about Cyprus … a pleasure to tour with him and an adventure to say the least !”

Walks in Cyprus – Genesis Aphrodite’s Trail

Walks in Cyprus – Genesis Aphrodite’s Trail

WALKS IN CYPRUS - GENESIS APHRODITE'S TRAIL

white cliffs and sea views

Googlemap Starting Point: Genesis Aphrodite’s Trail.

Length: Approx 10.5km
Time: Approx 2.5 – 3 hours

A very popular walk that runs between the top of Pissouri Village, near Pine Bay Resort residential area to the ‘Prolimnos Dog’s Beach’ and back. The official starting point is the Dog’s Beach, which is located near Aphrodite Hills Resort (around 6km), however we recommend starting and ending in Pissouri instead; where it’s easier to park and the start of the walk is flatter. This also gives you the opportunity to stop and enjoy the pebble dog beach in the middle of the walk – you could even take a picnic to enjoy there too.

Walking in Cyprus is a real pleasure, especially at springtime and after late summer (July and August is a little hot for hiking, unless you’re good with the heat!). This trail is best known for its views of the white cliffs (Cape Aspro) that run along the coast between Pissouri and Aphrodite’s Rock, the mythological birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. They are simply spectacular, especially against the backdrop of the seemingly never ending, vast Mediterranean Sea shimmering beautifully beyond vision.

Park up just past the Pine Bay Resort residential area in Pissouri where the Genesis Aphrodite’s Trail begins through a brief pine forest that then opens up to flat fields (where there are some horses and often, goats). Follow the flat fields for some distance and keep your eyes peeled for the hiking information board on the right hand side of the path – it is a little tricky to spot and looks like it might take you a little off-piste, but despite appearances it is the correct way to go. The path is easy to follow beyond this point, and ends at the pebble beach known as ‘Dogs beach’ next to the B6 road that runs along the coast between Paphos and Limassol. This is not a circular path, so once you reach this point, it is a case of turning back and enjoying the views for a second time.

A lovely blog that documents the Genesis Aphrodite’s Trail, together with a suggested app for the route, is Discovercyprus.blog.

Paphos Harbour

Paphos Harbour

paphos harbour

Little fishing harbour turned tourist hotspot

Paphos harbour is a popular spot for lunch, or a sunny stroll; you might even catch a glimpse of the local pelicans strolling along the pedestrian area. Once a little fishing town, and despite having grown into a vibrant city, the harbour area is a beautiful nod to Paphos’ history – it is well maintained and clean, and despite the typical holiday souvenir shops, still remains true to its routes.

You can spend one hour, or a whole day, enjoying the harbour – whether you pop there for an ice cream and a little walk, stay for lunch and a couple of cocktails, or even tie in spending some time exploring the wonderful archeological sites that are around.

The best place to park is the main parking area close to the harbour itself – Click Here for the Googlemap Location.

Day Tripping to Paphos Harbour is also easy from Aphrodite Hills, as the bus route links directly from the Golf Club car park to the harbour.

The Harbour

There are a number of restaurants, cafes and bars situated along the harbour, as well as the usual franchises of fast food, and coffee shops, so you’re never short of choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner. A couple of the restaurants have play areas for little ones (most famously The Moorings). Ice cream shops are aplenty too, serving cool flavours, frozen yogurts and bubble teas. If you fancy some fish then the restaurants on the actual harbour itself are a great option; it’s a beautiful setting with little fishing boats in the background. Souvenir shops offer all sorts of gifts and keepsakes, toys, fun trinkets and local delicacies to take home.

Coastal Path

There is a lovely, flat coastal path that runs the full length of the main hotel strip in Paphos starting from the beautiful Saint Nicholas Church right along to the harbour, and continues further along the coast past the lighthouse and beyond. You can pretty much park and join the path from anywhere along the route. There are lots of little beach coves scattered along the way too, so if you fancy, take your beach towel and a book and have a beach pit-stop!

The Medieval Fort

The Fort is a distinct feature at Paphos Harbour and has a colourful past – it was originally built as a Byzantine Fort to protect the harbour, then during the Ottoman invasion in 1570 it was dismantled by the Venetians, then rebuilt in the 16th Century by the Ottomans after they captured the island. The Fort also served as a prison in the past, and, during British rule, as a salt warehouse! Visitors can purchase a pass to explore the castle – details on opening hours and costs can be found HERE.

Paphos Mosaics

A visit to Paphos Mosaics is very interesting – the entrance is between the harbour and main parking area HERE. The whole site is known as the ‘Archaeological Site of Nea Paphos’ and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list since 1980. The park includes a number of archeological sites (that date from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages) such as the Agora (market), castle, ruins of an early Christian Basilica, and the Odeon (amphitheater). The most impressive part of the park is its mosaics, found in the houses of four Roman noblemen – the pebble mosaics that make up the floors are stunning and very well preserved. These mosaics are considered amongst the finest in the eastern Mediterranean, and for good reason. Learn about the park’s opening hours and fees HERE.

Boat Trips

There are various boat trips available to take from Pahos Harbour, including day trips, sunset cruises, and even a themed pirate trip on the Jolly Roger wooden pirate ship, hosted by the hilarious Captain Jack Pigeon – lots of fun for all the family. Representatives of the cruise companies can be found at the harbour, or alternatively you can check out details on their websites: Paphos Sea Cruises / The Wave Dancer.

Tomb of the Kings

We also recommend checking out Tomb of the Kings which is found around a five minute drive from the Harbour: location. Another impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site (also since 1980), Tomb of the Kings in an archeological park of monumental underground tombs. VisitCyprus lists prices and visiting hours HERE.
